Women's Volleyball Picks up First Win of 2008

NIAGARA, NY - Freshman Ashlyn Trimble (Temecula, CA) collected eight kills, while fellow freshmen Maile Hetherington (Thousand Oaks, CA) and Brittany Best (Norco, CA) had seven apiece to help the Sacred Heart women's volleyball team defeat host Niagara in the Niagara Invitational on Saturday.

The Pioneers swept three games by scores of 25-18, 25-19 and 25-12. The win evened SHU's record at 1-1, after the Pioneers were swept by Southern Illinois, 3-0, on Friday night.

In the Niagara match, sophomore Courtney Kidd-Kadlubek (Santa Barbara, CA) finished with 23 assists and a team-high eight digs.

In the third match of the tournament for SHU, the Pioneers were blanked 3-0 by Oakland University on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers fought hard before being defeated 25-20, 25-22 and 25-16. Best had nine kills to lead the Pioneers in the match, while Heatherington and freshman Jessica Colberg (Long Beach, CA) had 11 digs each.

The Pioneers will be in action again on Friday at 7 p.m. when they host the Sacred Heart Invitational Friday through Sunday.
