Pioneers Downed by Blue Devils in NEC Semifinal
The Sacred Heart women’s volleyball team ended their season Saturday evening after falling to Central Connecticut State 3-0 in the semifinal match of the 2013 Northeast Conference Championship. Senior Dianis Mercado (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico), who was named to the 2013 All-NEC first team last night, led the match with 14 kills, while 2013 NEC Rookie of the Year Sarah Krufka (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) was right behind her with 13.

Krufka NEC Rookie of the Year; Mercado and Robinson All-NEC
Three members of the Sacred Heart women’s volleyball team were honored at the annual Northeast Conference awards banquet on the eve of the NEC Championship. Sarah Krufka (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) was named the 2013 NEC Rookie of the Year, as well as a member of the All-NEC second team. Senior Dianis Mercado (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico) was tabbed to the All-NEC first team, and freshmen Kiki Robinson (Bakersfield, Calif.) to the All-NEC second team.

Sarah Krufka Names Molten/NEC Rookie of the Week
Sarah Krufka (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) led for the Pioneers offensive attack in the final week of regular season, registering 13 kills in a setback to Robert Morris and 14 in a road win at Saint Francis U to get her second Molten/NEC Rookie of the Week award. Krufka hit a consistent .317 for the weekend, combining a .303 and .333 attack percentages at RMU and SFU, respectively. The California native accounted for three block assists as well as three digs for her second Molten/NEC Rookie of the Week this season.

Pioneers Sweep Saint Francis U in Regular Season Finale
The Sacred Heart women’s volleyball team swept the Saint Francis U Red Flash Saturday afternoon in the final match of the 2013 regular season. Rookie Sarah Krufka (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) led the match with 14 kills while hitting .333. The Pioneers outplayed the Red Flash in all categories on their way to the win. SHU finishes the regular season 15-15 and 9-5 in conference.

Pioneers Downed by Colonials 3-0
Sarah Krufka (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) led all player with 13 kills Saturday afternoon as the Sacred Heart women’s volleyball team dropped the match to Robert Morris in three straight sets. Errors hurt the Pioneers’ chance of winning the match. Despite outhitting the Colonials 47 kills to 38, SHU had 36 total errors compared to RMU’s 18. Sacred Heart falls to 14-15 on the season and 8-5 in conference with the loss.

Women's Volleyball Sweeps Bryant on Senior Day
Marie Zimmerman (Denver, Colo.) posted an errorless match Saturday afternoon recording a team-leading 10 of her 15 attacks for kills. Dianis Mercado (Vega Baja, Calif.) hit .409 without any errors on her Senior Day as the Sacred Heart women’s volleyball team swept the Bryant Bulldogs to improve to 14-14 this season and 8-4 in Northeast Conference play.

Despite having five players in double-figure kills, the Sacred Heart volleyball team fell in five sets 3-2 (25-23, 20-25, 25-7, 14-25, 9-15) to the Central Connecticut Blue Devils Saturday night at the William H. Pitt Center.

Pioneers Swept by Seawolves
Allison Riggs led all players hitting .500 Tuesday night as the Sacred Heart women’s volleyball team was swept by Stony Brook in their last non-conference match of the season. This week’s Molten/NEC Player of the Week, Riggs, posted and errorless match recording seven kills on 14 attacks. With the loss, the Pioneers fall to an even 13-13 on the season.

Allison Riggs Earns Second NEC Player of the Week Nod
Allison Riggs (Anaheim, Calif.) hit an impressive .630 for the Pioneers last week, recording 19 kills on 27 attempts with just two errors over six sets to earn her second Molten/Northeast Conference Player of the Week nod. The sophomore was a driving force of the Pioneers' offense in Sacred Heart's 3-1 victory of Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday, tallying 18 kills. She finished the week with 3.33 kills per set.

Pioneers Roll Past FDU 3-1; Clinch Spot in NEC Tournament
The Sacred Heart women’s volleyball team defeated Fairleigh Dickinson University in four sets Saturday night in the William H. Pitt Center. With the win, the Pioneers clinch a spot in the 2013 Northeast Conference Championship Tournament. Allison Riggs (Anaheim, Calif.) led the match with 18 kills as SHU improves to 13-12 on the season and 7-3 in conference play.

Lee and Mercado Lead Pioneers in Loss to Fairfield
Dianis Mercado (Vega Baja, P.R.) and Jene Lee (San Dimas, Calif.) led the Sacred Heart women’s volleyball team with eight kills each as the team fell to cross-town rival Fairfield University in three sets Wednesday evening in Alumni Hall. Lee, who has had strong outings the last few matches, posted a .385 hitting percentage, while fellow rookie middleblocker Maddie Losure (Bethlehem, Conn.) had an errorless match recording five kills on 10 attempts. The non-conference loss drops the Pioneers to an even 12-12 on the season.

Pitt Center. Senior Dianis Mercado (Vega Baja, P.R.) tallied a match-leading 12 kills in the win that improved the Pioneers to 12-10 on the season and 6-2 in Northeast Conference play.

Senior Dianis Mercado (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico) posted her career-high 32 kills in the Sacred Heart women’s volleyball team’s 3-2 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson Saturday afternoon in the Stratis Arena. Jene Lee, who hit .500 in the set, led the team with five block assists. The Pioneers improve to 11-9 on the season, and 5-2 in conference with the win.

The Sacred Heart women’s volleyball team is hosting its “Digg Pink” match Tuesday, October 22 at 7:00 p.m. The Pioneers will do battle with Hofstra as they raise money for the Norma F. Pfriem Breast Care Center.

Dianis Mercado (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico) led the all players with 16 kills, and was one of three Pioneers to reach double digit kills—Allison Riggs (Anaheim, Calif.) and Sarah Krufka (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) posted 10 each—as the Sacred Heart women’s volleyball team beat the St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers in three straight sets Sunday afternoon in the Genovesi Center. Freshman libero Ana Gonzalez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) recorded 18 digs for the match-high as SHU improved to 10-9 on the season and 4-2 in conference play.

The loss drops SHU to an even 9-9 on the season and 3-2 in Northeast Conference play, while the Blackbirds remain undefeated in conference play 5-0.

The Sacred Heart women’s volleyball team lost a tough five-set battle to the University of Connecticut in a midweek non-conference match Tuesday in the Gampel Pavilion. Dianis Mercado (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico) led the match hitting 25 kills while hitting .291. Rookie Rachel Guida (Huntington, N.Y.) had her best match of the season topping all players by hitting .526, recording 10 kills on 16 attempts with just one error in the five sets. The loss drops the Pioneers to 9-8 in 2013.

Dianis Mercado (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico) reached a double-double Sunday afternoon in the Detrick Gym leading the match with 19 kills and 13 digs. Despite recording 11 more kills than Central Connecticut State University, hitting and service errors were the Pioneers downfall as the Sacred Heart women’s volleyball team got their first conference loss 3-1 at the hands of the Blue Devils. With the loss, SHU falls to 9-7 on the season and 3-1 in conference.

Volleyball Comes From Behind to Top Bryant 3-1
Alissa Young (La Verne, Calif.) led the Pioneers hitting .417 as the Sacred Heart women’s volleyball team came from behind to defeat Bulldogs 3-1 Saturday afternoon in the Chace Athletic Center on the Bryant University campus. Dianis Mercado (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico) tallied a match-leading 12 kills as SHU moved to 3-0 against Northeast Conference opponents, and 9-6 on the second.

This is Mercado's second Player of the Week award this season, while this marks the first NEC weekly award for Krufka.

The Sacred Heart women’s volleyball team swept Saint Francis U for its first Northeast Conference win Saturday evening. Freshman Sarah Krufka (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) led the way tallying 16 kills while hitting .464 for the night. Middle blocker Allison Riggs (Anaheim, Calif.) posted the match’s top hitting percentage of .500 (7-for-10 with two errors), while Dianis Mercado (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico) snagged a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs. Sacred Heart improves to 7-6 with the win.

Mercado Slams 27 Kills as Pioneers Go 1-2 at Villanova Classic
Dianis Mercado (Vega Baja, Calif.) led the Pioneers with 27 kills hitting .281 Saturday, as the Sacred Heart women’s volleyball team was swept by University of Pennsylvania before defeating Norfolk State 3-1 at the Villanova Classic. Sarak Krufka (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) continued to show her dominance on offense posting 20 kills through the two matches. Sacred Heart finished the tournament 1-2 making them 6-6 overall this season.

The Sacred Heart women’s volleyball team dropped its first match of the Villanova Classic 3-1 to the hosting Wildcats Friday night. Freshman Sarah Krufka (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) continued to show her power on offense leading the all players with 18 kills. The loss drops the Pioneers to 5-5 on the season.

Despite a strong offense, the Sacred Heart women’s volleyball team could never get the edge over Delaware and fell to the Blue Hens in three sets Saturday afternoon in the Bob Carpenter Center. Sarah Krufka (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) once again led the Pioneers tallying 10 kills, while fellow rookie Jene Lee (San Dimas, Calif.) posted a .462 hitting percentage notching seven kills on 13 attempts. SHU falls to an even 4-4 with the sweep and are 0-2 now in the Delaware Invitational.

Pioneers Win Five-Setter Over Rutgers
The Sacred Heart women’s volleyball team picked up its only win of the Delaware Invitational Saturday evening in a five-set match against Rutgers. Like every other match this weekend, Sarah Krufka (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) led the way for the Pioneers, posting 15 kills, and rookie libero Ana Gonzalez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) tallied 28 digs in the match. The win brings SHU back over .500, 5-4.

The Sacred Heart women’s volleyball team picked up a pair of wins on the second day of the SHU Hampton Inn Invitational, including a nail-biter five-set match against Manhattan. Senior Dianis Mercado (Vega Baja, Calif.) posted the team best 29 kills on the day, recording 20 in the win over Manhattan where she hit .348. Rookie Sarah Krufka (Ranch Santa Margarita, Calif.) proved to be an offensive force to be reckoned with Saturday totaling 25 kills for the day.

The Sacred Heart women’s volleyball team was fell to American University in three-straight sets Friday evening to open the 2013 SHU Hampton Inn Invitational. Senior Dianis Mercado (Vega Baja, Puerto Rico) led the Pioneers with 11 kills hitting .156. Attack errors hurt SHU’s chances against the Eagles, as the Pioneers committed 26 errors to their 30 kills, and hit only .036 in the home-opener.

LOWELL, MASS. (August 31, 2013)—The Sacred Heart women’s volleyball team dominated UMass Lowell Saturday afternoon as they swept the Riverhawks for their second win of the season. Sophomore Allison Riggs (Anaheim, Calif.) hit .714 with a match-leading 10 kills on 14 attempts with no errors.

Freshmen Marie Zimmerman (Denver, Colo.) and Sarah Krufka (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) collected 22 kills each over two matches as the Sacred Heart women’s volleyball team opened the season. The Pioneers split the night, falling to Stony Brook 3-1 before sweeping Holy Cross. First-year setter Kiki Robinson (Bakerfield, Calif.) averaged 12.43 assists per set, and a .412 hitting percentage on the night.

Women's Volleyball Releases 2013 Schedule
The Sacred Heart Women’s Volleyball team, who will look for its third Northeast Conference Championship in 2013, has released its schedule for the upcoming season. In addition to the seven returners, including 2010 NEC Rookie of the Year Dianis Mercado (Vega Baja, Calif.), 10 rookies join the squad for the 2013 campaign.
