FAIRFIELD, Conn. (December 6, 2007) - Sacred Heart senior Arman Dixon (Beacon, NY) and freshman Angelica Johnson (Little Ferry, NJ) took home the Northeast Conference Track & Field first weekly awards of the season. Dixon was the winner of the Track and the Field Athlete of the Week awards while Johnson was named the league's NEC Rookie of the Week award.
Dixon appeared in mid-season form when Sacred Heart lifted the lid off the indoor season. Dixon, the Most Valuable Performer at the 2007 NEC Indoor Championships, notched victories in the 55-meter dash and 4x200 relay at the season-opening Collegiate Track Conference Relay Carnival. Dixon's winning 55-meter time of 6.35s qualified the senior for the IC4A Indoor Championships this upcoming March. His 200-meter relay split (21.30) stands as the fastest in Sacred Heart history.
Dixon recorded an IC4A-qualifying mark in the long jump to go along with his qualifying 55-meter time. The senior from Beacon, NY won the event with a leap of 7.23m, besting the IC4A standard by 19 centimeters (nearly eight inches).
Johnson caused numerous program records to fall during her Sacred Heart debut at the Collegiate Track Conference Relay Carnival. The freshman sprinter ran the 55-meter dash in record time (7.27), smashing the previous Sacred Heart mark by more than three-tenths of a second. Running the 200-meter leg for the winning Sprint Medley Relay team, Johnson saw two more records tumble. Her split of 25.5s is the fastest in school history and the team's time of 4:14.73 broke the former school record of 4:20.87.
