The Sacred Heart men's track & field team took home third place at the 2007 Northeast Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship Sunday afternoon with senior Evan Lasher (Pleasant Valley, NY) and junior Arman Dixon (Beacon, NY) leading the way. Dixon and Lasher both took home performer of the meet awards. On the women's side, the Pioneers took fourth in the event held at Monmouth University with freshman Brittany Dexter (Ballston Lake, NY) winning Rookie of the Meet honors.

The SHU men finished with 112.5 points while Monmouth claimed their fourth-straight NEC title with 168.5 points. The women finished with 87.5 points with the Hawks also claiming the title with 146.16 points.

Sacred Heart's Dixon earned Most Valuable Performer honors as the junior kept his win streak in tact, taking the gold in the 100m (10.75) and the 200m (21.55) while also placing fifth in the long jump (6.88m). Dixon won the Most Valuable Perfomrer honors at the NEC Indoor Championship as well. He shares Outdoor Most Outstanding Track Performer honors with FDU's Samuel Chelanga (Nairobi, Kenya).

The men's co-outstanding field performer award went to senior Corey Brown (Smithsburg, MD) from Mount St. Mary's and Lasher. Brown placed fourth in the high jump (1.98m) and claimed the individual titles in both the long jumo (7.32m) and the triple jump (14.58m). Lasher, meanwhile, placed fourth in the javelin and placed second with an NCAA qualifying mark of 16.98 in the shot put. In the discus, the senior set a new meet record with a toss of 53.53m.

Sacred Heart senior Alonzo Meek (Wayne, NJ) won the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.13. SHU junior Scott Giordano (Hamden, CT) finished fourth in the 100 meters with a time of 10.98 and 7th in the 200 meters in 22.64.

 

 

Sophomore Luis German (Southampton, NY) took fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 1:55.39. He follwed that with a fourth place clocking in the 1,500 meters as well, crossing the tape in 4:02.36. Senior Joey Henley (Kent, WA) took fourth in the high jump clearing the bar at 6'6".

Junior Ian Straughter (Hackensack, NJ) and sophomore Thomas Hyatt (Hopewell Junction, NY) took third and fourth in the pole vault. Straughter cleared 13'9.25" while Hyatt made a height of 13'1.50".

Sacred Heart's Dexter was tabbed the NEC Rookie of the Meet as she placed first in the high jump with an ECAC qualifying mark of 1.70m.

With an ECAC qualifying mark of 13.68m, Sacred Heart senior Marsha Locke (Danbury, CT/Danbury) captured the gold in the shot put. She finished seventh in the hammer throw (45.86m) and eighth in the discus (39.13).

In the 400-meter hurdles, junior Melissa Kotsan (Salem, MA) finished second with a time of 1:01.65. In the 3000 meter steeplechase, senior Katie Duffy (Monroe, CT) took second with a time of 11:24.71.
