BOSTON, MA (February 27, 2005) - Sacred Heart freshman Arman Dixon (Beacon, NY) continued his breakout season over the weekend, leading the Pioneer men's indoor track & field team to their best-ever finish at the New England Championships in Boston, MA. Dixon won the 55-meter dash and the long jump and finished second in the 200-meters to guide SHU to a sixth place finish among 36 teams.

The Pioneers came out on top over such New England powers UMass, UConn, Northeastern, the University of New Hampshire, the University of Maine and Boston University as Dixon became the first Sacred Heart male athlete to medal at the New England meet.

Dixon beat UMass's Joe McCormack to the finish line in the 55-meter dash with a time 6.41. His leap of 23'8.00" was good enough to give him the top-spot in the long jump, finishing ahead of Fred Jones, Jr. of Tufts. Dixon clocked in at 21.29 to finish second in the 200-meters wrapping up another outstanding weekend for the SHU freshman.

Also earning points for the Pioneers was junior thrower Evan Lasher (Pleasant Valley, NY). Lasher finished second in the shot put with a toss of 56'3.25". He picked up a seventh place finish in the weight throw with a heave of 55'9.75". Freshman Jared Maher (Norway, ME) finished sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 44'9.75". The Pioneer 4x400 relay team finished sixth with a time of 3:19.16.

On the women's side, Sacred Heart finished 11th in the 33 team field. Sophomore Katie Duffy (Monroe, CT) took home seventh place in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:10.94. Freshman Marsha Locke (Danbury, CT) took home third in the shot put event with a heave of 45'6.25", an impressive showing for her first time at the event.

Fellow freshmen Jamie Kilis (Marlborough, CT) and Brianne Hudak (Corinth, NY) each scored in the indoor pentathlon event. Kilis finished third with 3,153 total points while Hudak took fourth with 3,125 points.

Both Pioneer teams will conclude the indoor season next weekend when they compete at the IC4A/ECAC Championships in Boston.
