NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Sacred Heart men's and women's track and field teams had 21 top-10 finishes in field events at the Mark Young Invitational, hosted by Yale, on Saturday, capping off a weekend that saw the Pioneers send athletes to three different meets.
MARK YOUNG INVITATIONAL
The Sacred Heart men's track team finished fifth at the Mark Young Invitational at Yale. Marc Troiani won the shot put with a throw of 54'9.5". He was also fourth in the discus (156'7") and ninth in the hammer throw (158'3"). Philip Miccio placed fourth in the shot put (51'5.5") and 10th in the hammer throw (156'1"). Daniel Pepitone's throw of 160'10" in the hammer throw put him in eighth place.
Gregory Hazell placed second in the long jump with a leap of 22'2.25", and tied for third in the high jump by clearing 6'2.25". Thomas Ford finished fifth in the long jump at 21'5.25" as Drayke Jackson also placed fifth in the triple jump (45'8.5"). Giuseppe DeLucia cleared 13'3.5" to finish sixth in the pole vault while Scott Sheehan threw the javelin 179'6" to place seventh. On the track, Colby Jennings finished fifth in the 3000m steeplechase in a time of 11:18.01. Jackson placed sixth in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.31.
The Pioneers women's track team placed sixth in the team standings. Freshman Nicole Bartosch won the long jump with a leap of 18'8", while also posting a second place finish in the high jump by clearing 5'3". Kolbi Smith had a pair of top-eight finishes on the day. Smith finished second in the shot put with a throw of 48'10". She then had a throw of 152'8" in the hammer throw to place eighth.
Freshman Mareena DiMilia, the reigning NEC Rookie of the Week, placed second in the hammer throw (165'1"), fifth in the javelin (122'9"), and ninth in the discus (115'10"). Freshman Kate Sheridan ran to a seventh-place finish in the 5000 meters, running a time of 21:51.92. The Pioneers placed fifth, sixth, and seventh in the 3000m steeplechase. Teresa Gagliostro was the top finisher in 12:34, followed by Kelly Quinn in sixth place (12:35.65), and Lindsay Arcuri in seventh (12:59.80).
MORGAN STATE LEGACY TRACK & FIELD MEET
A select group of Sacred Heart track and field athletes competed at the Morgan State Legacy Track and Field Meet in Baltimore this Friday and Saturday. Osedebamen Imeokparia won his heat in the 200 meters in a time of 22.31 seconds, placing second in his heat of the 100 meters in 11.18 seconds. Angela Harrison finished second in her heats in both the 100 meters (12.87) and 200 meters (26.68). Ashia Wright ran third in her heat of the 100 meters in 12.67 seconds. The Men's 4x100 meter relay won its heat in a time of 42.26, the third-fastest time in the meet. In the field, Lorraine Santiago placed 16th in the triple jump with a leap of 34'4". Brandon Hutchinson finished 21st in the long jump with a jump of 20'9.25". Joshua Beloff was 22nd in the event with a leap of 20'7".
LARRY ELLIS INVITATIONAL
Three women's runners competed at the Larry Ellis Invitational at Princeton. Emma Bolduc finished fifth in her heat of the 1500 meters, running a time of 4:36.17. Brianna Castrogivanni ran a time of 10:40.18 in the 3000m steeplechase and Elizabeth Hutchins had a time of 17:17.85 in the 5000 meters.
Sacred Heart will next compete at the Penn Relays April 24-26 and the Yale Springtime Invitational on April 27.
