SHU Track Competes at Terrier Invitational
BOSTON, MA (January 26, 2013) - The Sacred Heart men's and women's track & field teams wrapped up their weekend competing at the Boston University Terrier Invitational at the BU Track and Tennis Center.
The Pioneers had a solid weekend in the field events with junior Brandon Hutchinsonon the men's side taking sixth in the triple jump and 17th in the long jump. Hutchinson had a leap of 46'4.00" in the triple and a jump of 20'7.25" in the long jump.
In the weight throw, three Pioneers finished in the top-15 led by senior Matthew Wagner who took eighth overall with a toss of 55'1.50". It was an all-time best throw for Wagner who bested all Northeast Conference competition in the event.
R-Junior Marc Troiani finished 11th with a heave of 52'7.50" and John Wlasuk was 15th with a throw of 49'7.75". Troiani took home a 12th place finish in the shot put with a throw of 49'5.50".
In the women's shot put, junior Lindsay Aponte took home a third place finish in a deep field with a throw of 46'4.75".
On the track, junior Brianna Castrogivanni placed ninth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:45.48. Senior Alyssa Selmquist ran 14th in the 5,000 meters, clocking in at 17:21.07. In the 500 meters, Katelyn Racanelli finished 10th overall with a time of1:16.55.
In the men's mile, Patrick Petersonfinished 20th in a field that saw six runner clock in under four minutes. Peterson ran a season best time of 4:08.95. The highlight of the day was the men's elite mile, as U.S. Olympian Galen Rupp wowed the capacity crowd with a time of 3:50.92 in his bid to break the American indoor record of 3:49.89. Rupp's mark is now the second fastest American indoor time.
Both Pioneer teams will be in action next weekend at the 9th Annual Yale Giegengack Invitational at the Coxe Cage.
