Fairfield, CT - Junior Ashley Amalfe (Clark, NJ) and freshmen Kristina Chao (Needham, MA) won the third doubles flight and three other players reached the finals in their singles flight as Sacred Heart placed second at the New England Women's Tennis Championships over the weekend.

Amalfe and Chao won their doubles flight defeating Providence (8-6), Holy Cross (8-6) and top seeded team of Valerie Chacon and Grace Hedstrom of URI 8-6 in the finals. In other doubles action, Darcy Demers (Norton, MA) and Kate Donnelly (Centerville, MA) placed third in the number two flight and Julianne Kasinow (Wall, NJ) and Nicole Betz (Long Beach, NY) finished fourth in the number one slot.

In singles action, Kasinow reached the second singles final, beating Holy Cross and Bryant before losing to top-seeded Tristany Leikem from Rhode Islan. In the third singles flight senior Elizabeth Harrington (Westerley, RI) got to the finals as well before falling to URI. In the fourth singles flight, Demers did not drop a set in her first two matches, advancing to the finals before losing to Rhode Island's Christen Cadigan.

Rhode Island was the team champion, finishing with 79 points with the Pioneers tallying 57 points, one better than third place Fairfield's 56. Holy Cross was fourth with Bryant, Providence, Merrimack and Hartford rounding out the field.

The Pioneers are back in action Saturday when they host Siena at 12:00 pm.
