FAIRFIELD, Conn. (October 5, 2006) - The Sacred Heart and Manhattan tennis teams split their six singles matches but the Pioneers took two of the three doubles matches to pick up a 4-3 win over the Jaspers Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore Mandy Finkelstein (Portland, CT) wrapped up the last singles match of the afternoon, beating Patrice Riley, 6-3 and 6-1 in the #5 slot to push the match in favor the Pioneers.

Other singles winners was sophomore Nicole Betz (Long Beach, NY) and freshman Ashley Amalfe (Clark, NJ). Betz earned a 6-1, 6-4 win over Morgan Mac Thggert at #4 and Amalfe beat Mallory Nguyen in straight 6-0, 6-0 sets.

The doubles point was siezed by freshman Julianne Kasinow (Wall, NJ) and junior Jessica Schnell (Schenectady, NY) at #2 and junior Britany Price (Meridan, CT) and Amalfe at #3. The Kasinow/Schnell team won an 8-4 match over Lindsey Keeler and Riley. Price and Amalfe beat Mac Thggert and Lindsey Spagnola, 8-6.

The Pioneers will look to defend their New England Championship next weekend, October 14th and 15th.
