FAIRFIELD, Conn. (October 1, 2008) - The Sacred Heart women's tennis team improved their dual match record to 2-0 on the fall after a 7-0 win over Manhattan on the Pioneer Tennis Courts Wednesday afternoon. The Pioneers swept all six singles and all three double matchs on the day.
Freshman Kate Donnelly (Centerville, MA) won her match at #1 singles, 7-6 (9-7) and 6-3 over Lindsay Keeler and teamed with senior Mandy Finkelstein (Portland, CT) to win at #2 doubles, 8-4, over Casey Conklin and Hilary Valenzuela.
Junior Julianne Kasinow (Wall, NJ) and sophomore Elizabeth Harrington (Westerly, RI) also each picked-up a pair of wins. Kasinow beat Morgan MacTaggart at #2 singles, 6-3, 6-0 and then teamed with senior Nicole Betz (Long Beach, NY) to win at #1 doubles, 8-5, over MacTaggart and Christine Krasinski. Harrington won her #3 singles match in a tiebreak, 6-2, 4-6, (10-2). Harrington and junior Ashley Amalfe (Clark, NJ) won at #3 doubles, 9-7, over Keeler and Christina Ton.
Freshman Kristin Chao (Needham, MA) swept her singles match at #4 over Conklin, 6-0, 6-0. Sophomore Darcy Demers (Norton, MA) beat Krasinski, 6-3, 6-4, at #5 and freshman Delaney Downing (Englewood, CO) topped Ton at #6, 6-2, 6-0.
The Pioneers are back in action next weekend, October 11th and 12th, hosting the New England Championships.
