KINGSTON, R.I. (September 24, 2006) - The Pioneer women's tennis team picked up eight wins in singles and doubles play against Providence, Fairfield and New Jersey Tech at the University of Rhode Island Shootout this weekend. The Pioneers finished the event fifth overall while the host Rams took first claiming 16.5 wins.
In doubles play, SHU grabbed three wins facing the Friars led by the team of senior Pam Pillo (Shelton, CT) and sophomore Nicole Betz (Long Beach, NY). The duo came away with an 8-2 win over Kerri Shultz and Meghan Gilroy.
Sophomore Mandy Finkelstein (Portland, CT) and freshman Julianne Kasinow (Wall, NJ) teamed to beat Ashley Rissolo and Dara Hawkins-Hodgson, 8-5. Junior Jessica Schnell (Schenectady, NY) and freshman Ashley Amalfe (Clark, NJ) earned an 8-2 win over Jen Cusack and Amy McDevitt.
Facing Fairfield in singles play, the Pioneers got a pair of wins from Pillo and freshman Nicole Keller (Waldwick, NJ). Pillo bead Marisa Voloshin at #1 singles, 8-6, while Keller defeated Gretchen Amberg at #8, 8-4.

Against the Highlanders of NJIT, SHU got a pair of doubles wins and another singles win from Keller. Kasinow and Finkelstein beat Isha Toor and Fanny Aizier, 8-6, while Schnell and Amalfe won 8-3 over Chioro Koike and Grace Bogdan. Keller posted an 8-1 win over Bogdan at #6 singles.
The Pioneers have a pair of dual matches on the upcoming slate, traveling to Monmouth on Friday and hosting Manhattan on October 4th.
