WEST WINDSOR, NJ (April 21, 2006) - The Sacred Heart women's tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the 2006 Northeast Conference Championship with a 4-0 win over #6 Robert Morris Friday afternoon. The #3 Pioneers advance to face the #2 seeded Long Island Blackbirds on Sunday.
The men suffered a 4-0 defeat to the #3 seeded Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers and will play #7 Monmouth tomorrow in the consolation bracket.
For SHU, junior Pam Pillo (Shelton, CT), freshman Laura Murillo (Pittsfield, MA) and senior Lissa Von Brecht (Cumberland Foreside, ME) picked up singles wins and the Pioneers took the doubles point for the win.
Pillo beat Kali Delorie at #2 singles, 6-0, 6-0 and teamed with senior Lauren Galatie (Monroe, CT) to win at #1 doubles, 8-0 over Renee James and Kathryn Skopinski.
Murillo won at #3 singles 6-2 and 6-1 over Katie Kravits and Von Brecht took her #6 singles match 6-1, 6-0 over Mary Esch.
Clinching the doubles point was freshman Mandy Finkelstein (Portland, CT) and sophomore Jessica Schnell (Schenectady, NY) who beat Sarah Hancock and Esch, 8-4.
