NEC Championship Results Day 1
WEST WINDSOR, N.J. (April 20, 2007) - The Sacred Heart women's tennis team, seeded fourth at the Northeast Conference Championship, beat the #5 seed Fairliegh Dickinson, 4-2, Friday afternoon to advance to the semifinals on Saturday against top-seed and defending champion Quinnipiac. The men beat #9 seed St. Francis-NY, 5-1, in the outbreak match but fell to top-seeded Fairleigh Dickinson 5-0.
Freshmen Julianne Kasinow (Wall, NJ) and Ashley Amalfe (Clark, NJ) won their singles matches at #2 and #6 and teamed to pick up a vitory at #2 doubles to lead the Pioneers. Kasinow beat Clara Smith, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 while Amalfe won 6-1 and 6-0 over Stacey Honore. The duo beat Jessica Decarlos and Ksenia Chernyshova 8-4.
The other singles winner was sophomore Mandy Finkelstein (Portland, CT) who beat Tricia Small at #5, 6-1 and 6-0. SHU snagged the doubles point with Finkelstein and junior Jessica Schnell (Schenectady, NY) beating Small and Honore, 8-0,
The Pioneer men won four singles matches and took the doubles point to win their outbracket match with St. Francis-NY, 5-1, defeating the Terriers for the second time in a week.
Senior Chris McDonnell (Naugatuck, CT) led the singles charge with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Elan Evans at #2. At #3, senior Kevin Guidicipietro (Mountainside, NJ) beat Vihren Todorov 6-0, 6-1. Sophomore Matthew Cook (Milford, CT) won his #4 singles match with Robert Vandenburg, 6-0, 6-0 and junior Jason Farhardi (Saunderstown, RI) beat Tyrone Fordham 6-0, 6-1 at #5.

In doubles, Guidicipietro and Cook teamed for an 8-4 win at #2 and Farhadi and freshman Kevin Pustelniak (Stockholm, NJ) won 8-2 at #3 to seize the point.
The Pioneers fell 5-0 to the top-seeded FDU Knights and will face the #5 seed Mount St. Mary's in the consolation match tomorrow. The women take on #1 seeded Quinnipiac at 9:00 am.
