Fairfield, CT - The Sacred Heart women's tennis team lost a pair of matches to NEC competition over the weekend, dropping a 5-2 decision to Long Island at the National Tennis Center on Saturday and suffering a 4-3 setback to Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday.
Sophomore Ashley Amalfe (Clark, NJ) went 3-0 on the week, turning in two doubles wins and a singles win. She won her number six singles match against Long Island in three sets and won both her doubles matches at the number two slot.
The Pioneers lost two of the three doubles matches against LIU, winning at number two behind Amalfe and Julianne Kasinow (Wall, NJ). Other than Amalfe's win at number six singles, freshman Elizabeth Harrington (Westerly, RI) picked up a three set win at number four singles.
After sweeping all three doubles matches, the Pioneers could only get two wins in singles against FDU in losing the match by one point. Senior Jessica Schnell (Schnectady, NY) won her match at fifth singles and junior Mandy Finkelstein (Portland, CT) picked up a victory in the number six slot.
SHU will host Hofstra and Hartford and visit Siena and Quinnipiac this week.
