The Sacred Heart women's tennis team snapped a five-match losing skid with a 7-0 sweep of the Hartford Hawks on Saturday afternoon at the SHU Tennis Courts. The Pioneers posted their second 7-0 dual match victory of the season as they improve to 7-9.
The Pioneers won four of the six singles matches in perfect 6-0, 6-0 fashion led by sophomore Kate Donnelly (Centerville, MA) at #1. Following in her shoes was junior Elizabeth Harrington (Westerly, RI) at #3, Kristina Chao (Needham, MA) at #4 and senior Julianne Kasinow (Wall, NJ) at #5.
Junior Darcy Demers (Norton, MA) won her #2 singles match over Nicole Haynal, 6-2, 6-1, while sophomore Kristin Legenza (Berlin, CT) won at #6 singles, 6-0, 6-1 over Emily Menafra, her first win of the season.
SHU also swept through double play with three-straight wins starting with Chao and Harrington at #1. The duo beat Margaret Sabatino and Nicole Haynal, 8-1. Donnelly and junior Delaney Downing (Englewood, CO) beat Kaitlin Lennon and Margaret Potkey, 8-2 while seniors Ashley Amalfe (Clark, NJ) and Lindsey Scierka (Cromwell, CT) won at #3, 8-1, over Emily Willhoft and Menafra.
The Pioneers are back in action on Wednesday afternoon hosting Providence and Thursday hosting UMass.
