SHU Men's Tennis Beats BU; Women Fall at Fairfield

The Sacred Heart men's tennis team posted a 5-2 win at Boston University while the Pioneer women fell 4-3 to cross-town rival Fairfield on Sunday afternoon. The SHU men improve to 9-6-1 while the women fall to 6-8 in dual match action.
Junior Kirill Kasyanov (Yonkers, NY) won his third-straight singles match and seventh-straight doubles match to lead the Pioneer win. Kasyanov posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Jeff Chudacoff at #1, raising his overall record to xx-xx and 8-3 since the start of the spring semester. He and fellow junior Nick Massarese (Stonington, CT) teamed for an 8-6 win over Alex Hallenbeck and Marcus Vanberckel at #3 doubles.
The Pioneers swept all three doubles matches as the teams of juniors Adam Gart (Bedford, MA) and Michael Syer (Oakville, Ontario) and Chris Ujkic (Mattituck, NY) and Cole Conrad (Fairfield, CT) posted wins. Gart and Syer posted an 8-5 win at #1 over Chudacoff and Josh Friedman. The duo is a team-best 9-5 on the season. Ujkic and Conrad won 8-6 over Bill Kring and Alex Green at #2.
Gart posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Hallenbeck at #3 singles, raising his season record to 14-7 and 7-3 playing in the #3 spot. Syer defeated James Bernstein 6-1 and 6-3 at #4 singles while sophomore Chad Sullo (Orange, CT) finished out singles play with a 6-2, 6-4 win at #6 over Vanberckel.
The SHU women on the doubles point for the second-consecutive match but came up short in singles play falling 4-3 to the Stags. Junior Elizabeth Harrington (Westerly, RI) posted a singles win over Kristen Liu at #3, rebounding from losing the first set 6-4 to win 7-5, 10-7. She has won six of her last seven singles matches in raising her record to 8-5 in dual match play and 11-10 overall.
Sophomore Delaney Downing (Englewood, CO) earned the Pioneers other singles win, beating Hannah Blau at #6, 4-6, 7-5 and 13-11. Downing teamed with sophomore Kate Donnelly (Centerville, MA) for a win at #3 doubles over Michaela Cerrone and Meghan Sullivan, 9-7.
The Pioneer women will travel to Northeast Conference foe Long Island and host Hartford this week. The men play host to Hartford and Monmouth this week.
