SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Sacred Heart women's tennis team posted a 6-1 win at Bryant University over the weekend. The Pioneers swept all three doubles matches and took five of the six singles matches to improve to 5-4 on the season.
The team of junior Elizabeth Harrington (Westerly, RI) and sophomore Kristina Chao (Needham, MA) led the doubles sweep with a comeback 8-6 win at #2. The duo trailed the team of Chelsea Downing and Irma Rodriguez Lockwood 6-1 before battling back for the 8-6 win. The team of sophomores Delaney Downing (Englewood, CO) and Kate Donnelly (Centerville, MA) won 8-2 at #3 doubles beating Dana Tausek and Katie Francazio.
At #1 doubles, junior Darcy Demers (Norton, MA) and senior Juilanne Kasinow (Wall, NJ) dealt Caludia Hidalgo and Valeria Couto Cuervo a 9-7 loss. The Pioneers swept the singles matches a #2 through #6, all in straight sets. Kasinow won her #5 singles match beating Chelsea Downing, 6-1, 6-0.
Chao won at #4, 6-3, 6-0, over Francazio while Demers won at #2 over Couto Cuervo, 6-2, 6-3. Harrington beat Morganne Downing 6-3, 6-2 at #3 singles while SHU's Downing beat Rodriguez Lockwood, 6-1, 4-6, (10-6) at #6.
Next up for the Pioneers is a trip to Orlando, Florida where they will play South Dakota State, Creighton and Radford.
