NEWARK, NJ – The Sacred Heart women's tennis team finished their Fall slate over the weekend at the NJIT Women's Tennis Invitational in Newark. The three day event held at the Althea Gibson Tennis Center featured nine other teams.
Senior and New Jersey native Gabi Kaldan (New Brunswick, NJ) rebounded from a loss in the A singles draw to make it all the way to the finals of the consolation bracket. Kaldan defeated Caroline Koladzyn of Fairfield (6-2, 6-1), before taking down Adina Halagian of St. Peter's (6-3, 7-5). Sophomore Paige Olson (Sykesville, MD) also made it to the finals of her consolation bracket, defeating Rhode Island's Cristina Lopez-Fernandez (6-3, 6-1), and then Hannelore MacDonald of host NJIT (8-2).
In other action, sophomore Lindsey Post (Danbury, CT) earned a 6-1, 6-1 win over Ivana Grbelja of St. Peter's, and the duo of Post and sophomore Katie DeRienzo (Douglaston) earned a doubles victory over Kristina Eisenberg and Sarah Contrata of Saint Joseph's (8-7 (5)).
SHU will begin its Spring schedule on January 25th when they play host to the NJIT Highlanders at Yale University.
