Pioneers Sweep Monmouth in NEC Opener

WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ (September 19, 2012) - The Sacred Heart women's tennis team opened up their dual match schedule with a 7-0 Northeast Conference win at Monmouth Wednesday afternoon.  The Pioneers did not drop a set to the Hawks on their way to their first win of the season.

Junior Gabi Kaldan (New Brunswick, NJ) posted a 6-1, 6-1 win in the #1 singles slot, beating MU's Nicole Lippens.  Kaldan teamed with freshman Lindsay Post (Danbury, CT) for an 8-1 win at #1 doubles, beating Lippens and Brooke Verdiglione.  Post earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at #4 singles over Dana Ferrari.

Sophomore Nicole Rydzewski (Maspeth, NY) was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Verdiglione at #2 singles.  Rydzewski and freshman Katie DeRienzo (Douglaston, NY) partnered for an 8-3 win over Ashley Sandler and Ferrari at #2 doubles.  DeRienzo won at #3 singles over Sandlers, 6-2, 7-5.

Freshmen Ashley Olson (Sykesville, MD) and Alyssa Migliorini (North Haven, CT) posted a matching 6-0, 6-0 wins at the #5 and #6 singles spots.  Olson and sophomore Haley Dubits (Andover, NJ) won at #3 doubles, 8-3, over Emily Ellis and Liz D'Arcy.

The Pioneers are at the Hofstra Invitational next weekend.
