Federal Way, WA - Sacred Heart University swimming was represented at the National Championship for the first time in program history this past weekend. Junior Katie Marshall (Cumberland, RI) competed in the 200-yard butterfly at the Weyerhaueser King County Aquatic Center.
As the first National Qualifier from SHU, Marshall finished 65th out of 80 swimmers in the preliminary round of the 200 fly. Her time was a personal best 2:08.85, nearly a two second drop from her previous best at the Harvard Invitational last month.
Head coach Richard Ludeman credits Marshall and his entire Pioneer swim team for their diligence and fortitude to vault the program to this level. Competing on the national stage is certainly a step in the right direction for the Sacred Heart swimming program.
The Pioneers return to action this Saturday, December 12, for a 1:00 pm meet at Siena.
