Pioneers Finish 3rd at Iona Meet

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (October 26, 2013)—The Sacred Heart women's swim team came in third Saturday at Iona in a meet which featured Wagner College, St. Francis Brooklyn and host-school Iona.

The Pioneers took home their beat finishes of the day in the 400 yard Freestyle Relay nabbing second and third place. The team of Olivia Decas (Mattaposiett, Mass.), Caleigh Dion (Dunstable, Mass.), Lizzy Bennett (Fairbanks, Alaska) and Jillian Crosby (Port Monmouth, N.J.) took second place finishing the race in 3:48.41, while Meredith Nyser (Barrington, R.I.), Amy Nunes (Seekonk, Mass.), Julia Pedersen (Washington Township, N.J.) and Siobhan Goodman (Ridgewood, N.J.)'s 4:01.98 was good enough for third place. The team finished fourth in the only other relay of the day, the 400 yard medley, swimming it in 4:11.31.

Goodman's fourth place finish in the 200 yard Butterfly event was Sacred Heart's highest individual finish of the meet. The Pioneers took home three fifth place finishes: Decas in the 50 yard Freestyle, and Malvina Reinhold (Gothenburg, Sweeden) in the 500 yard Freestyle and 200 yard Breaststroke. 

Sacred Heart rounded out its 19 top 10 finishes with five sixth place, two seventh place, two eighth place, one ninth and two tenth place finishes.
