Women's Swimming Wins NEC Sportanship Award

May 12, 2009

Fairfield, CT - The Sacred Heart women's swimming team was honored with the Northeast Conference Sportsmanship Award, announced by Comissioner Brenda Weare Monday afternoon. The swimming award was one of seven presented for the winter season by the NEC.

"The commitment to good sportsmanship by student-athletes and coaches is one of our highest priorities," noted Weare. "Our goal at the Northeast Conference is to become a leader in this area, so I applaud these teams for their dedication in promoting the ideals and fundamentals of good sportsmanship."

Instituted by league Presidents last spring, the awards are designed to acknowledge the team in each conference sport that, in the opinion of its peers, most closely demonstrates good sportsmanship based on the NEC Principles of Sportsmanship and Standards of Conduct. Voting is conducted at the conclusion of each season by every student-athlete and head coach, who rank teams within the conference based on a set of criteria.
