Fairfield, CT - Head Coach Richard Ludemann has announced that sophomore Taylor Sullivan (Stoughton, MA) has been named the captain of the women's swimming team for the upcoming 2009-10 season. In addition two Pioneer swimmers were honored by the Athletic Department for their acheivements this year.

Sullivan is one of the top relay swimmers for the Pioneers. In 2009 she helped anchor the Pioneer 200 medley relay team that qualified for the ECAC Championships. The quartet of SHU swimmers set a school record at the ECAC meet. Sullivan also was impressive in the 400 yard individual medley, an in which she finished tenth at the Northeast Conference Championships in February.

"Taylor will be a centered balance to our team," Ludemann said. "I believe she has strong values and will lead us into the future brightly."

Freshman Laurie Casado (Queens, NY) and sophomore Katie Marshall (Cumberland, RI) each received awards at the 17th Annual Athletics Banquet Monday Night at the Trumbull Marriott. Casado was named to the Pioneer All-Rookie Team while Marshall was honored with a Coaches' Award and an Athletic Director's Award for qualifying for the U.S. Senior Nationals this year.
