Pioneer Swimmers Have Record Day in Loss to Siena

LOUDONVILLE, NY (December 12, 2009) – Despite falling to Siena College, 136-89, on Saturday junior Drew Mulvey (Bridgewater, CT) and freshman Juliette Wallerstein (Southbury, CT) broke school records in the 1-meter dive and 50-yard freestyle.
Mulvey recorded a score of 235.50 to take second place in the 1-meter. The previous mark was held by Elizabeth Schweitzer. She also competed in the 3-meter dive and took first place with a score of 248.85.
Wallerstein swam the first leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay in a record 25.32 seconds, the fastest 50-yard time since Christine Giblin’s 25.33. She was also a part of the 200-medley relay and 200-freestyle relay teams that finished first. The 200 MR team of Meg Bellamy (Barrington, RI), Stephanie Walters (Wanaque, NY), Katie Marshall (Cumberland, RI), and Wallerstein achieved the ECAC standard with a time of 1:54.72.
Junior Jackie Balder (Levittown, NY) placed second in the 200-free in 2:03.17, while freshman Rachel McGrath (Dorchester, MA) recorded a personal best time of 2:03.50 to take third. Balder won the 500-free with a time of 5:27.21.
In the 100-yard butterfly, Marshall, a junior, placed first, hitting the wall in 1:00.74. Walters, a freshman, swam the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:10.43 to finish second.
The Pioneers return to the pool after the first of the New Year at Bryant on January 27.
