Piscataway, NJ - Freshman Laurie Casado (Queens, NY) set a new school record in the 100 yard breaststroke and three other school records nearly went down Saturday for the Sacred Heart swimming team at the Rutgers Invitational.
Casado blew away the old SHU record in the 100 breast by nearly three seconds, posting a time of 1:07.44. Sophomore Katie Marshall (Cumberland, RI) turned in a time of 59.97 which came in just short of her own school record set at last year's NEC Championships. Freshman Allison Thurston (Berlin, CT) posted a mark of 4:56.35 in the 400 yard Individual Medley to improve her personal best time by five seconds. Finally, the quartet of Casado, Marshall, Molly McDonald (Sag Harbor, NY) and Kelly Welsh (West Long Branch, NJ), turned in a time of 1:56.42 in the 200 yard medley relay, just shy of school record pace.
The Pioneers continue competition at Rutgers on Sunday.
