Brooklyn, NY - Freshman Laurie Casado (Queens, NY) set a school record in the 200 yard breaststroke and sophomores Katie Marshall (Cumberland, RI) and Jackie Balder (Levittown, NY) each won two events for Sacred Heart in the Pioneers dual meet at CW Post Saturday. However, the Pioneers lost the meet 112-89.
Casado set the first SHU record of the season, after the Pioneers broke 22 school marks last season. Her time of 2:33.15 was good for second place but bettered the old mark by over one second.
Balder had an outstanding meet against CW Post, posting two event wins. In the 1000 yard freestyle, she out-swam the field by nearly four seconds, posting a time of 11:00.26 to take first place. She also placed first in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:21.52.
Marshall took first in the 200 yard freestyle and 200 yard butterfly events. She was two seconds ahead of the field in the freestyle and outdistanced the competition by three seconds in the butterfly.
The Pioneers are back in the pool this weekend when they participate in the Rutgers
Invitational. Competition is set to start on Friday.
