BROOKVILLE, NY (November 9, 2009) - The Sacred Heart University swim team lost a non-conference meet to C.W. Post Saturday afternoon, 116-80.  Junior Jackie Balder (Levittown, NY/MacArthur) took home a pair of first place finishes.  In the 1000-yard freestyle, she finished in 11:02.57, while swimming the 500-free in 5:23.55.

 

For the Pioneers, Sophomore Meghan Bailey (Walpole, MA/Walpole) and freshman Stephanie Walters (Wanaque, NY/Lakeland) finished second and third in the 200-IM.  Bailey finished with a time of 2:17.35 and Walters in 2:18.56.

 

In the 50-yard freestyle, freshman Juliette Wallerstein (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug) reached the wall in 25.55 coming in second behind Post freshman Cornelia Hanes who narrowly won in 25.33.  Wallerstein also placed third in the 100-yard butterfly finishing in 1:02.78.

 


 

 

Sophomore Laurie Casado (Queens, NY/The Mary Louise Academy) and freshman Rachel McGrath (Dorchester, MA/Boston Latin) took second and third in the 100-yard freestyle with times of 57.95 and 57.97, respectively.  Casado also finished third in the 100-yard breastroke, hitting the wall at 1:11.01.

 

The Pioneers will be back in action as they compete in the Harvard Invitational in Boston, MA November 20-22.
