Pioneer Swimmers Down Manhattan for First Win

Fairfield, CT - Sophomore Catheryn Lozinak (Shelton, CT) won two individual events and led the relay team to victory as the Pioneers swimming and diving team won their first meet of the season, downing Manhattan 58-47 Saturday at the Wheeler Recreation Center.

Lozinak won the 800 meter and 400 meter freestyle events to give the Pioneers some breathing in a meet that was back and forth between both teams. She posted a time of 10:03.97, to win the 800 meter event by 28 seconds. Lozinak swam the 400 in 4:55.97, bettering the field by 10 seconds. She also swam the first leg of the 200 meter freestyle relay, to give the Pioneers an early push towards winning that event.

Sophomore Laura Johnson (Red Hook, NY) won her 100 meter breaststroke event as well, posting a time of 1:21.50. The other Pioneer event victory came in the 200 meter freestyle, where sophomore Adriana Morgan (Poughkeepsie, NY) won with a time of 2:19.47.

The Pioneers begin a stretch of six straight road meets Saturday at Iona. The first event is set to start at 1:00 pm.
