BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, NY – On Saturday, the Sacred Heart University swim team competed in a tri-meet against Northeast Conference opponents Wagner and Saint Francis (NY) at Saint Francis.  The Pioneers lost to Wagner 66-29.  Junior Katie Marshall (Cumberland, RI/Saint Mary Academy-Bay View) took home first place in the 200-freestyle with a time of 2:01.38 and finished second in the 100-butterfly in 1:00.52.

 

In the 100-breaststroke, freshman Stephanie Walters (Wanaque, NY/Lakeland) placed first with a time of 1:10.95.  Sophomore Allison Thurston (Berlin, CT/Berlin) finished fourth in 1:17.32.  Thurston also swam the 200-IM in 2:21.59 to take third place, while Walters finished fourth in 2:23.89.

 

Freshman Juliette Wallerstein (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug) came away with a pair of third place finishes.  In the 100-freestyle she finished in 56.43 and completed the 50-meter freestyle in 26.04.


 

 

 

The 200- freestyle relay team of Wallerstein, Marshall, Laurie Casado (Queens, NY/The Mary Louise Academy), and Rachel McGrath (Dorchester, MA/Boston Latin) finished second with a time of 1:45.07.

 

Junior Jackie Balder (Levittown, NY/MacArthur) placed second in both distance races.  She completed the 1000-freestyle in 11:00.87, while finishing the 500-meter freestyle in 5:28.08.

 

In action again on Sunday, the Pioneers took to the pool for a tri-meet with interstate rivals Central Connecticut and Southern Connecticut.  SHU lost to CCSU 98-40, while also falling to the host team88-55.  Marshall took home another first place finish by swimming the 400-butterfly in 4:35.42.  She also placed second in the 1000-freestyle coming in at 11:06.61.

 

Wallerstein took second in the 100-freestyle with a time of 55.36 and finished fourth in the 400 in 4:26.96.  In the 400-medley relay, Thurston, Casado, Wallerstein, and Kelly Welsh (West Long Beach, NJ/Shore Regional) finished in 4:23.51 to take third place.

 

The Pioneers take to the pool again this Saturday at C.W. Post.
