New Britain, CT - Freshman Katie Marshall (Providence, RI) set a new Sacred Heart school record with a time of 2:11.36 in the 200 yard butterfly to lead the Pioneers swimming and diving team in the season opening Blue Devil Duals at Central Connecticut over the weekend.
Marshall made an immediate impact for the Pioneers in her first weekend, with the record time in her first event. The mark was also good enough to qualify her for the ECAC Championships at the end fof the season. Marshall also placed third in the 100 yard fly with a 1:01.50 time.
Other top finishers for the Pioneers included freshmen Jackie Balder (Levittown, NY), who placed eighth in the 500 and 1000 yard freestyle events. Freshman Johannah Kos (Feeding Hill, MA) took home fifth place in the 200 yard backstroke and then finished seventh in the 400 yard individual medley.
Sacred Heart is back in the pool Saturday when they face C.W. Post. The meet is set to start at 1:00 pm.
