FAIRFILED,CT (February 2, 2004) - The Sacred Heart University women's swimming team concluded their home portion of their schedule with two strong performances. The Pioneers earned a split on Saturday with a 71-34 victory over St. Francis NY and a 70-63 loss at the hand of 15th ranked Cental Connecticut State University.

Sacred Heart put together one of the strongest efforts of the season against an extremely talented Central Connecticut. CCSU is Nationally ranked 15th by the College Coaches Swimming association. The Pioneers were tied with CCSU going into the last relay, but the Blue Devils relay team was to much for SHU to handle.

Christine DePierro (Cromwell, CT) put together an impressive day in her last home meets of her successful career. She won the 800 meter freestyle in a time of 9:33.98, then won the 100 meter freestyle in a time of 1:02.17, and finished the day with a win in the 400-meter freestyle in a time of 4:47.03.

The Pioneers finish regular season play on Saturday February 7, 2004 when they travel to Providence Rhode Island to take on the Providence College Friars at 1:00pm.
