Fairfield, CT - The Sacred Heart softball team has released its 2008-2009 schedule. The Pioneers will play 10 games in the fall in preparation for their spring schedule. The season opens as SHU welcomes rival Fairfield to Pioneer Park September 21st.
The fall slate includes tournaments at Fairfield, St. John's, and Stony Brook. Contests against AIC, Yale, as well as two alumni games round out the 2008 fall schedule.
The Pioneers will open the spring portion of their schedule February 20th with a tournament at the University of South Carolina. The next week Sacred Heart heads north to compete in a tournament in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The Pioneers then head to Osceola, FL for the Rebel Games, which take place March 7th to March 15th.
SHU then moves into the conference portion of its schedule, opening at home March 28th against Quinnipiac. The Pioneers will also be in non-conference action against Dartmouth, Yale, Stony Brook, Siena, Fairfield, and Seton Hall.
In mid-April the Pioneers will play 8 road games in 5 days, covering over 550 miles. The final four games of the road trip will be crucial as SHU squares off against conference opponents Mount St. Mary's and Monmouth.
The Pioneers will close out their conference schedule April 25th when they take on Farleigh Dickinson. The NEC championship tournament will be held May 8-10.
