Taylor Froelich (Garden Grove, CA) of the softball team has been named the Enterprise Rent-A-Car/SHU Student Athlete of the Week for April 20-26. Froelich hit .636 (7-11) last week as the Pioneers went 3-0 and secured a spot in the NEC playoffs for the first time in program history.
The center fielder started the week going 2-3 with two runs scored in Sacred Heart’s first game of the week, a 3-0 triumph over cross town rival Fairfield Tuesday afternoon. Froelich started several of the Pioneers rallies in identical 9-1 victories overall Fairleigh Dickinson in Saturday's double dip. In game one the Garden Grove, CA native recorded three hits, including two doubles, one run scored, and a RBI. Froelich stayed hot with two more hits, another double, and two runs batted in the double header finale. Froelich leads the Pioneers with a .336 average and 6 homeruns in 2009.
The Pioneers will be either the two or three seed entering the NEC playoffs which are set to begin May 8th and will be hosted by top seed Long Island. Sacred Heart still has non conference tilts remaining with Seton Hall, Fairfield, and Bryant before entering the post season.
