Sacred Heart Heads To Florida For Rebel Games
March 5, 2009
Heading In... Sacred Heart is geared up and will head to Osceola, FL for the 2009 edition of the Rebel Games. The Pioneers will play 10 games during Spring Break against teams from eight different conferences including two games against members of the Ohio Valley Conference and the Horizon League.
Rain, Rain Go Away... The rain spoiled the Pioneers recent trip to Chattanooga and washed out four of their scheduled five games at the Frost Classic. Sacred Heart’s only action on the trip was a 9-0 loss to Tennessee Tech.
The Real McCoy... Catcher Shannon McCoy leads the Pioneers in batting average, slugging percentage, and homeruns through the first five games of the 2009 season. The sophomore is batting at a .286 clip, slugging .500, and popped the Pioneers lone homerun of the year.
Fleet of Foot... Courtney Lee showcased her power last season, but in 2009 she is also contributing with her speed. She has swiped three bags in three attempts to start 2009.
Rebel Games History... In the past two seasons the Pioneers have compiled a 10-10 record at the Rebel Games and posted a winning record of 6-4 last year. In 2008 SHU notched wins over Fairfield, Detroit Mercy, IPFW, Tennessee-Martin, and two victories against Holy Cross.
Rough Start... Sacred Heart opened 2009 with a very challenging schedule and have yet to pick up a win, going 0-5. This is the first 0-5 start in Division I history for the Pioneers.
Clearing the Bases... Senior captain Betsy Harvey currently leads the Pioneers in average with runners in scoring position, hitting .500 in the clutch.
Up Next... SHU will host the Huskies of UConn for a double header in the home opener at Pioneer Park March 25th. That weekend the Pioneers will jump right into conference play as Sacred Heart hosts Quinnipiac and Central Connecticut State in NEC action.
