STONY BROOK, NY - Angela Andrews and Sarah Hoffman both tossed complete game shutouts and Kristen Brust hit a walk-off home run in the nightcap-one of her three home runs on the night-to lead Stony Brook to a double header sweep of Sacred Heart on Thursday afternoon at University Field. The Seawolves, who won Game 1 3-0 in eight innings and Game 2 3-0, have now won five of their last six games to improve to 25-27 on the season.
Andrews (16-17) tossed a two-hitter while striking out six in the opener to post her sixth shutout of the season and second straight, while Hoffman (9-9) allowed four hits while striking out three in the second game. Brust, who entered the contest batting just .231 in SB's last 10 games, smacked three home runs on the afternoon to account for all of Stony Brook's runs.
In Game 1, both teams struggled at the plate, but Stony Brook broke through in the bottom of the eighth inning. Marissa Servello drew a one out walk and moved to second when Jane Stein reached on an error. Brust followed with with a three-run shot to right field to give SB the victory.
Danielle Mellin (5-11) took the loss for the Pioneers after allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits and five walks while striking out five.
In Game 2, the Seawolves took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Stein doubled and Brust followed with a two-run homer down the right field line. Brust capped off the scoring in the bottom of the sixth with her third homer of the game and 13th of the season, a solo shot to center field.
Bethany Lemenager (4-12) took the loss after allowing three runs on five hits while striking out six over six innings of work.
