Box Score

Hackensack, NJ - Junior Jacqui Riley (Burlington, MA) and freshman Ashley McDonough (Lompoc, CA) each hit homeruns and senior Chrissy DeMott (Levittown, NY) tossed a shutout to power Sacred Heart to a 9-0 win in the nightcap and a doubleheader split with Fairleigh Dickinson in softball action Thursday.

After dropping the opener 1-0, the Pioneers responded early in the second game, with Riley hitting a two-run home run in the first inning.

Sacred Heart then posted a five-run second inning to take a dominating 7-0 lead as McDonough had a two-run shot, Melissa Mezzanotte (North Haven, CT) had a two-run single and Betsy Harvey (Unionville, CT) had an RBI-double.

SHU closed the book in the fifth inning as they scored a pair of runs for the 9-0 victory. Demott recorded her third win of the season allowing only two hits and striking out five.

Nicole Webb pitched all seven innings of the shutout win in the opener for the Knights (8-38, 5-12 NEC), recording her second-straight win as she scattered seven hits and struck out five.

Ali Keltos, who finished the game 1-for-2, led off the fifth inning with a single down the right line and was advanced on a hit batter followed by Stephanie Cahill's sacrifice bunt. Jennifer Whitley sent a long fly ball down the left field line to breakup the scoreless tie and plate Keltos.
