Softball Splits Pair at St. Francis - PA

LORETTO, PA - Senior pitcher Michele Walker tossed a four-hit shutout in the second game to help the Sacred Heart University softball team salvage a Northeast Conference doubleheader split with Saint Francis University on Sunday afternoon. Saint Francis won the first game, coming from behind for a 5-3 victory.

Red Flash senior pitcher Stacy Scofield tossed a complete-game three-hitter in game one, striking out seven and walking six. The righthander scattered three singles over seven innings while allowing just one earned run in the win.

Saint Francis, 7-20 overall and 4-3 in the NEC, trailed 2-1 in the first game before scoring four runs in the fifth inning to post the victory. Freshman first baseman Jordanna Riggi drove home two of her team's four runs in the inning with a double to centerfield.

Sacred Heart, now 8-17 overall and 3-3 in the NEC, won the nightcap 1-0. The Pioneers pushed across the game's only run in the third inning. Junior Grace Teruel opened the frame with a double to left and scored on a double to center by senior Pam Vuijst.

Walker would make the run stand up, allowing the Flash just four hits in the shutout win.
