Brooklyn, N.Y. (March 28, 2004) - The Sacred Heart University softball team fell to 0-4 in Northeast Conference play and 3-16 overall after dropping a doubleheader at LIU (8-20, 4-0 NEC) on Sunday evening.

The Pioneers dropped the first game 3-0 as Blackbirds pitcher Jackie Brown allowed just two hits in recording her third win of the season. Chrissy DeMott (Levittown, NY) surrendered one earned run on seven hits for SHU.

In the second game Long Island exploded for a five-run first inning in their way to a 9-2 route of Sacred Heart. The Pioneers got on the board with two runs in the top half of the fifth inning before the Blackbirds answered with four more runs in the bottom of the fifth to put the game away.

Jessica Busick went 4.1 innings in picking up her fifth win of the season while freshman Bethany Lemenager (New Bedford, MA) took the loss.

Senior Katie Ross (Arden Hill, MN) went 1-2 in the second game with one run scored while sophomore Jen Place (Latham, NY) was 1-3 with a run scored.

The Pioneers will look to end their skid with a double header at Iona on March 31st starting at 2:30 pm.
