SHU Softball Drops Tuesday Contest At Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn.— The Sacred Heart University was unable to escape an early deficit, falling to crosstown rival Fairfield 7-4 on Tuesday afternoon. The Stags (18-24) put up four runs in the first as to split the season series against the Pioneers (26-18).

The Scoring…

Bottom of the 1st inning… The Stags jumped on the board with a one-out two-RBI double by Angelina McGuire. Fairfield added another pair of runs on a single by Hannah Futo for the 4-0 lead.

Top of the 4th inning… The Pioneers picked up back to back one-out singles by Stephanie Mangiameli and Kelyn Fillmore. Katelyn Christian drove home both runners with a single up the middle to cut the score to 4-2.

Bottom of the 4th inning… Fairfield was able to scrap one run back on a Rachel Sieber single through the left side with two outs.

Bottom of the 5th inning… The Stags lead went back to four as McGuire plated the RBI triple to the right field wall to bring the score to 6-2.

Top of the 6th inning… SHU earned two runners on after two early outs as Fallon Bevino singled and Lindsey Spitz walked. Lauren Delgadillo lined a single to right field to score Bevino from second.

Bottom of the 6th inning... Fairfield recorded its final run of the game on an Alisha Marshall RBI single to right field with two outs.

Top of the 7th inning… Cierra Casale opened the inning with a double to right center field. Pinch runner Chloe Weeks advanced to third on a wild pitch. Kira Ferraiolo picked up a RBI single through the left side for the final run of the game. 

The Numbers…

  • The Pioneers outhit the Stags 9-6 in the game.
  • Bevino and Fillmore led the way with two hits each. 

Noteworthy…

  • Christian recorded her fourth two-RBI game of the season and is now tied for first with four multi-RBI games this season.
  • Bevino added her team-leading 13th multi-hit game of the season
