Pioneers Close Regular Season Sweeping FDU

The Sacred Heart Pioneers closed out regular season play in dominant fashion as they went on to sweep Fairleigh Dickinson 3-0, and 3-0. The Pioneers closed out the regular season play with a record of 22-26, and a 10-6 conference record. SHU heads to the Northeast Conference championship May 11th for the first time since 2011, with hopes to bring home another NEC Championship.

  • The Pioneers were first to get on the board in the top of the 3rd, with Victoria D'Addario starting the two out rally, with a single to right field. SHU would rattle back-to-back hits, from Fallon Bevino, and Kristen McCann to bring in D'Addario.
  • Sacred Heart would stay hot, as they would pick up two runs in the top of the 6th, with Jessica Dubbioso reaching base on an error. Andrea Sidor would then rip a single to left field, followed by a Lauren Delgadillo single to left field to bring in Dubbioso, Desrosiers would send a ball to center field for a sacrifice fly, bringing in Sidor.
  • The Pioneers 3-0 lead would hold from the stellar pitching of Jamie Carlson
  • Carlson would pitch three perfect innings, till giving up the first hit of the game, in the bottom of the fourth. Carlson would go on to strikeout four Knights, and only allow two hits. The 3-0 win would mark her ninth shut out of the season, and third in a row to close out the regular season

  • SHU would keep rolling into game two, picking up three runs in the top of the fourth. Katelyn Christian would start things off with a single up the middle, as D'Addario would smoke a triple to right center to bring in pinch runner Addison Landry. The Pioneers wouldn't stop there, as Bevino would single to left field in the next at bat to bring in D'Addario. Sacred Heart would then capitalize on a throwing error to get the third run, taking a 3-0 lead
  • SHU would string together five hits in game two, but not put any additional runs, as the score would stand 3-0
  • McCann would throw a gem on the mound, going the distance and striking out five Knights.
