The Sacred Heart softball team collected two wins over LaSalle Tuesday afternoon. With the Pioneers down 5-4, Kate Nadler (Southbury, Conn.) hit the game-winning home run giving SHU the 6-5 win in the first game. Sophomore pitcher Adrianna Mallory (Pine Bush, N.Y.) was the star of the second game pitching a two-hit shutout leading Sacred Heart to the 7-0 victory.
Jade Bowins (Frederick, Md.) went 5-for-8 in the two games as the Pioneers improve to 2-2 on the young season.
Coming in in the bottom of the fifth with a runner on third and two outs, Kacie Wentworth (Canton, N.Y.) was lights out for two and a third inning preserving the close game. The junior gave up just two hits and struck out two as she picked up her first win of the season thanks to Nadler's late homer.
Mallory had a no-hitter going through five innings before she gave up her first of just two hits in the top of the sixth. En route to her first victory of the season, Mallory struck out six. Senior Annie Dreher (Saugus, Calif.) smacked two homeruns collecting five RBI. Freshman infielder Andrea Sidor (North Vancouver, British Columbia) went 2-for-3 scoring two runs, as Jenn Robillard (Plainville, Mass.) recorded two hits.
Tomorrow, the Pioneers play Temple at 10:00 a.m. and Niagara at noon.
