Fairfield, Conn. (April 14, 2013)—The Sacred Heart Softball team dropped both games of Sunday's doubleheader to in-state rival Quinnipiac at Pioneer Park. After being shutout 6-0 in the first game, the Pioneers had a 3-0 lead going into the sixth inning of the second game, but the Bobcats added four in the last two innings handing SHU the 4-3 loss. Sacred Heart drops to 18-20 and 4-8 in conference play.
Nicole Sidor (West Vancouver, B.C.) got the loss in the first game, giving up four runs on four hits in 2.1 innings. Courtney Machamer (Williamstown, Penn.) accounted for three of Sacred Heart's four hits in the game, going 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and two singles. The Pioneers showed patience at the plate working Quinnipiac pitchers for 11 walks, but to no avail as their struggles to bring runs home continued and left 14 runners on base.
Adrianna Mallory (Pine Bush, N.Y.) tossed five scoreless innings as she pitched a complete second game. The freshman got the loss giving up four runs late in the game. Jenn Robillard (Plainville, Mass.) scored the first run for the Pioneers in the first inning. Two batters after she reached on a fielder's choice, Sidor knocked her in with a single to centerfield. Kate Nadler (Southbury, Conn.) scored the last two runs for SHU, scoring on a passed ball in the third and sent home on Sidor's sac fly in the fifth.
Sacred Heart heads to New Haven next for a doubleheader against the Yale Bulldogs Wednesday starting at 3:00 p.m.
