For the second consecutive week sophomore Nicole Sidor (West Vancouver, BC) took home a Northeast Conference weekly award, earning Akadema/NEC Co-Pitcher of the Week honors after the Pioneers 3-1 weekend. The right hander posted a 2-0 record, striking out 21 batters and allowing one run in 11.1 innings of work (0.62 ERA). Sidor is now 4-2 in the circle in 2011 and has picked up a victory in each of her last four appearances.
In Sidor's first win of the week, a 7-1 triumph against league foe Wagner, she struck out the first eight batters she faced and finished the day with a career best 16 K's. Sidor came out of the bullpen on Sunday to toss 4.1 innings of scoreless relief as SHU edged out Siena in a 3-2 come from behind victory. The second-year Pioneer has totaled 72 strikeouts in 49.2 innings this season, good for an impressive 10.2 average per seven innings. Sidor has also been more than solid at the dish in 2011, compiling a .346 batting average to go along with two homers and 11 RBI.
The SHU softball team returns to action on the road this Wednesday for a non-conference double header with Stony Brook. First pitch is set for 2:30 pm.
