FAIRFIELD, Conn. (October 16, 2006) - The Sacred Heart women's soccer team took a break from the rigors of the Northeast Conference schedule to put on their coaching caps last Friday afternoon on Campus Field. The Pioneers hosted the Shelton U-10 girl's team for a soccer clinic where they helped teach the girls some of the ins and outs of the world's most popular game.
"We are thrilled to be able to reach out to our local youth teams and help them develop there technique and knowledge of soccer," stated head coach Kim Banner. "In the past, our community service projects have always been targeted around youth. We wanted to bring the local youth programs closer to the University and to the program."
The Pioneers spent an hour with the girls showing them everything to proper warm-up and stretching exercise as well as running them through several shooting, dribbling and footwork drills.
"It's nice to be able to give something back to some of the youth groups and programs that have always supported us over the years," commented senior captain Randie Quaglia (Manchester, CT).
When asked what the best part of working with local youth soccer teams, junior captian Alyssa Long (Smithfield, RI) replied without hesitation, "It's important for us to be positive role models to the young people throughout the community."
Senior captain Lisa Burbige (Babylon, NY) stressed the importance of passing on some of the soccer knowledge she and her teammates have acquired over the years.

"We get to pass on some soccer knowledge and also demonstrate some skills that the upcoming players, the 'All-Stars' of the future in Connecticut can really use."
