Ashley Testani (Monroe, CT) of the women's soccer team has been selected as the adidas/Northeast Conference player of the week after scoring two game winning goals in conference action. The Pioneers finished the week 2-1, playing three one goal games and defeating Fairleigh Dickinson and Saint Francis (PA). The award is the first of Testani's career as well the first honor for a Pioneer player this season.
Testani notched the game winner in Sacred Heart's Northeast Conference opener against Fairleigh Dickinson with under 2:00 to play in regulation. The senior midfielder broke the scorless tie on a perfectly struck free kick from just outside the penalty box.
The Monroe native sent the Pioneers to a 2-1 road victory over Saint Francis (PA) also tallying the go ahead goal late in the second half. Testani received a crossing pass from Samantha Kee (Haskell, NJ) and beat the keeper to send the Pioneers to a 2-1 start in NEC play and a 6-5 record overall.
The Pioneers return to action this Friday as they take on Central Connecticut at 7:00 pm under the lights at Campus Field.
