NEC Releases Women's Soccer Preseason Poll

The Pioneer women's soccer team was projected to finish eighth in the preseason coaches poll, which released today by the Northeast Conference. Central Connecticut received eight first place votes as they were selected the preseason favorites to win it all. Sacred Heart opens the season August 28 against La Salle and kicks off conference play September 29 at Campus Field in a match up with Fairleigh Dickinson.

Junior captain Leigh Dogmantis (Walnutport, PA/Catasauqua) led the team with 14 points and tied for eighth in the league with seven goals last season. Classmate Meghan Reichelt (Selden, NY/Centereach) placed third in the league last season with 5.45 saves per game and will anchor the defensive sideAfter qualifying for seven straight NEC Tournaments, the 2008 season marked Sacred Heart’s (2-14-4, 1-6-2 NEC) first time since 2000 that they did not receive a bid for postseason action. The Pioneers will rely on a young team as they try to find a way back into the playoffs.
