FAIRFIELD, CT (May 5, 2006) - Sacred Heart head women's soccer coach Kim Banner announced that seniors Lisa Burbige (Babylon, NY) and Randie Quaglia (Manchester, CT) along with junior Alyssa Long (Smithfield, RI) have been named team captains for the 2006 season.

"With their leadership abilities and overall experience, these three will help lead us to continued success within the Northeast Conference," stated Banner

Burbige will start her second stint as a team captain after filling the role this past season with graduate Orlagh Cullen. Burbige is coming of a junior season that saw her named to the All-Northeast Conference first team after leading the Pioneers to an 8-10-1 record and their fifth-straight trip to the NEC Tournament. Burbige, earning her first all-conference award, was one of the key ingredients in the Pioneer attack last season, ranking eighth in the league in scoring (16 points) and tenth in goals (six).

Quaglia returns to the SHU line-up in 2006 after missing all of 2005 with a knee injury. The senior defender was an all-conference player as a sophomore after leading the Pioneers to the second ranked defensive unit in the Northeast Conference. Prior to her injury, Quaglia had started all 37 games in her career and recorded three assists.

Long returns to her defensive midfield position for the Pioneers this fall. She started 18 games in 2005 finishing with an assist while helping to solidify the Sacred Heart defensive unit. As a freshman, she played in all 19 games making 17 starts and recorded an assist.

The Pioneers open the 2006 campaign the weekend of August 25th and 27th when they take part on Marquette and Wisconsin-Milwaukee in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
