FAIRFIELD, CT - Women's soccer head coach Kim Banner announced the signing of ten players for the incoming freshman class of 2008 today. The Pioneers will welcome a good mix of frontline and defensive players, hoping to return the Pioneers to the Northeast Conference playoffs for the seventh straight year.

Leading the list of incoming freshman is Amanda Stiles, a forward/center mid. from Miller Place, NY. She played for Miller Place High School and The Sound Beach SC Fire. She was named all-conference and all-county for her high school team.

"Amanda is a solid player," says Banner. "She has a true passion for the game and the drive to excel at this level."

The Pioneers will also welcome a local product in Erika Wicke from Trumbull, CT. She played for St. Joseph's High School and the Connecticut Olympic Development Program. Another defender joining the fold is Lauren Tamberino from Bay Shore, NY. She played for Bay Shore High and the Sound Beach SC Fire.

"Erika is a strong back player. She plays hard and tackles well," says Banner. "She, along with Lauren will help to be a strong force on the back line."

Also joining the Pioneers will be Maggie O'Callaghan, defender/ midfielder from Commack, NY. She, too, played for the Sound Beach SC Fire, as well as St. Anthony's High School. Deirdre Harrington, a midfielder from Port Jefferson, NY, has also committed to the Pioneers. She also played on the Sound Beach SC Fire and Port Jefferson High School.

"Deirdre has the speed and technique to go by players at this level," says Banner. "Maggie is a tenacious player. With her talent she will definitely contribute to our defense."

Two more players hoping to contribute to the offense are Veronica McGorry, a forward from Rutherford, NJ, and Brittany Stern, forward from Kings Park, NY.

"Veronica has a great eye for the goal," says Banner. "With her hunger and determination, she will be a strong force on the attack. Brittany is a very enthusiastic and energetic player. She can help boost the energy on our attack."

Shannon Rhatigan, a midfielder from Huntington, NY, has also committed to Coach Banner. She played with the Sachem Blazers. And is a quick and technical player. She has great speed and knowledge of the game, according to Banner.

Two other Connecticut players joining the Pioneers are Brittany Pizzella from Newington, and Heather Quevillion, a midfielder from Dayville. Quevillion played for the FSA Soccer Plus. And will likely be a utility player for Pioneers since she is able to play different positions effectively.
