HAMDEN, CT (October 26, 2003) - Sacred Heart junior Ashleigh Bepko (Guilford, CT) broke a scoreless 0-0 tie with just 1:29 seconds to play to send the Pioneers home with their sixth Northeast Conference win of the season, 1-0, over Quinnipiac Sunday afternoon. The win improves SHU to 8-5-3 overall and 6-2-0 in the NEC with just one game to play in the fight for a spot in the conference tournament.

The two teams battled through out the day on a wet, slick field; with neither team able to crack the other teams goalies. The game appeared headed for overtime when Bepko struck, sending a crossing pass from junior Christel Kalweit (West Barnstable, MA)into the back of the net at 88:31 to give the Pioneers the win.

Senior goalkeeper Leslie Konsig (Millburn, NJ) made six saves in recording her ninth shutout of the season. For Quinnipiac, now 5-10-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the NEC, Heather Zaccone made three saves in taking the loss.

Sacred Heart closes out the regular season on Wednesday afternoon with a 3 pm NEC-match at Wagner.
