Final Stats

FAIRFIELD, CT (October 24, 2003) - The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's soccer team controlled much of play in the first half before finding the back of the net twice in the second half to hand Sacred Heart its second-straight loss at home, 2-0. The loss drops SHU to 7-5-3 overall and 5-2 in the Northeast Conference while FDU improves to 8-5-1 and 4-1-1 in the league.

The Knights dominated play in the first half, putting five shots on goal while holding the Pioneers without a shot in the half. It looked as if SHU would get on the board first when in the 55th minute Paula Pineda (Vigo, Spain) earned a free kick from about 15 yards out. Pineda fired what was Sacred Heart's first shot of the game high off the cross bar. Just a minute later, the Knights escaped again unscathed when Nathalie Urbas (Pickering, Ontario) fired a shot on goal that Andrea Maston made the save on but Ingrid Olsson (Stockholm, Sweden) rebound attempt sailed wide left.

FDU finally broke through in the 60th minute when sophomore Danielle McAnally redirected junior's Kristen Habenicht's corner kick past Pioneer goalkeeper Leslie Konsig (Millburn, NJ) into the left corner. The Knights would put the game away just past the 84th minute when sophomore Chelsea Adams broke free down the right side of the field and cut a perfect cross to a waiting Kelly Geraghty who promptly fired it off Konsig and in.

Maston need only make three saves in the second half to make the final score stand up for the Knights. Konsig made four saves for Sacred Heart on the day.

Before today's game, Sacred Heart recognized five seniors, Pineda, Konsig, Jill Bizeau (Suffield, CT), Erika Harrysson (Stockholm, Sweden) and Colleen Attard (Bayport, NY) playing in their final home contests.

The Pioneers are right back in action on Sunday afternoon when the take on there instate rival Quinnipiac University in Hamden at 1 pm.
